Patient Participation Group
Staithes Surgery is keen that local people are involved in shaping the services they provide. A key way of achieving this is through supporting the Patient Participation Group (PPG).
What is a PPG?
A Patient Participation Group is a group of patients, carers and members of the staff team who meet to discuss Practice issues and patient experience to help improve the service.
What does Staithes Surgery PPG do?
PPG’s vary in how they run and the priorities they set. Our PPG has identified the following objectives to guide our work:
- To provide a forum for staff and patients to meet and discuss topics of mutual interest, make suggestions for change, provide patient feedback on current or proposed services and where appropriate use its influence to bring local needs to the attention of wider health and social care providers.
- To assist the Practice in monitoring quality through patient participation e.g. identifying and exploring issues from patient surveys, complaints, Family and Friends Test etc.
- Assist the Practice in raising patient awareness about services within the Practice and how to use the services more effectively.
- Provide updates and information to patients about developments and provision in the community that support health and wellbeing.
- Support Practice staff with health promotion and patient education through identification and circulation of resources, health focussed events and patient/carer awareness activities etc.
Who can join the PPG?
Any patient registered with the Practice who is over the age of 16 can be a member.
We have a small committee of staff and patients and some regular members who attend quarterly face to face meetings. Other members help with specific activities or bring in particular skills or experience when needed. Our aim is to be representative of the local community and would encourage anyone wishing to know more about what we do or how they can contribute to contact us via e-mail at ppgstaithes@aol.com or ring the surgery and ask for Vicki Pearson or Joanne Sutherland who will pass your details onto a PPG member who will be happy to contact you.
